Aegean Airlines is the second largest Greek airline and has hubs in Athens and Thessaloniki. It offers scheduled flights to around 30 destinations, many of which are domestic. Aegean Airlines is partnered with Lufthansa and works closely with TAP Portugal. Antonis and Nikolaos Symigdalas founded the airline Aegean Aviation in 1987 and began by operating privet charter jets. In 1999 they began offering scheduled flights under the current name Aegean Airlines and began regular service to Rhodos and Cania. The fleet and scheduled flights were later expanded and the airline acquired Air Greece. Two years later the company merged with Cronus Airlines. More than 15 of Aegean Airways' destinations are located within Greece, with other destinations in Europe and Africa.
