Aeroflot was originally founded on March 8th, 1923 and 15 aircraft were purchased for the fleet. The first flights offered were from Moscow to Nischni Nowgorod, but today the airline proudly offers connections to over 90 destination cities in around 50 different countries During the height of the USSR, Aeroflot-Russian Airlines was the largest air carrier in the world. At the height of their hay-day, they maintained a fleet of over 10,000 aircraft. As the Soviet Union fell apart in the early 90s, Aeroflot was forced to restructure the airline. Today Aeroflot-Russian International Airlines is continuing expansion of their flight plan and improving their business class provisions. The company has over 15,00 employees, 2,000 of which are pilots. The airline's strives to provide flight safety, along with with high quality service on board, as well as on the ground. Aeroflot has been a member of SkyTeam since 2006, with major partners including KLM, Air France and Northwest Airlines.
