Air Zimbabwe was founded in 1967 as Air Rhodesia and although the airline has changed ownership and names a few times since its inception, it has remained one of the safest airlines in the world. The airline has experienced multiple financial problems in the last decade, due to a combination of bad press and price inflation. The airline has flirted with bankruptcy in the last few years and has seen a staggering decline in passenger numbers. The airline is among the few that still have generous baggage allowances. Air Zimbabwe is based at Harare International Airport and offers international service to London Gatwick, Dubai, Singapore and Beijing, as well as continental service throughout Africa. The airline prides itself on an impeccable safety record, exceptionally trained pilots and warm in-flight hospitality.
