Bridgetown is a major West Indies tourist destination served by the Sir Grantley Adams International Airport. Bridgetown is the capital and only city on the island paradise of Barbados. Most sites are found within walking distance of the center. You might want to see the fascinating history of the island at the Barbados Museum or visit the Georgian St. Mary's Church, constructed in 1827, or see the neo-Gothic parliament buildings. You will definitely want to spend some time in Bridgetownﾒs Careenage. Once a port for ships, it now has restaurants, bars and boutiques set in what used to be warehouses for ship supplies. Just outside town, affordably reachable by taxi, is the Malibu Rum Factory. Bridgetown is proud of its sports arena, the Kensington Oval, and rightly so. If you're lucky you can see a one day international or a test match at the Oval and experience the excitement that goes with West Indies cricket. Or time your visit to coincide with Barbados Derby Day or Barbados Gold Cup Day and align yourself with the cream of Barbados society as well as the serious punters at the race course in Garrison.

Barbados offers exotica with an English accent. Try the local Bajan cusine, a strange mix of spicy and bland traditional English. Two specialties are pepperpot, a pork stew in a spicy dark brown sauce and flying fish, usually served lightly breaded and fried, with a VERY hot mustard sauce. On Friday nights there is a fish fry in the southern coastal town of Oistins. Locals stay there late and dance until dawn making it the second most popular tourist attraction on the island, after Harrison's Cave.
