British Airways is the largest airline in Britian and the flag carrier of the United Kingdom. The airline was founded in 1974 with the merger between former airlines BOAC and BEA, in combination with a few smaller regional airlines. With an overall passenger volume of 35 million passengers per year, British Airways is the largest operator of the Boeing 737-400 worldwide. Although British Airways has long enjoyed success in the European market, the emergence of low-cost carriers has made the last couple decades quite competitive for the air giant. Nonetheless, Skytrax gave British Airways the coveted World's Best Airline award in 2006. Today the airline is working to replace its long-haul aircraft with next generation Boeing and Airbus models. In this attempt, they have already ordered 50 new aircraft. The company is a founding member of the Oneworld Alliance, through which BA offers over 9000 connecting flights to 680 destinations in 142 countries worldwide. BA has an extensive international flight plan including destinations in almost every continent. BA offers passengers their unique frequent flyer program Executive Club, where one can earn miles and other benefits by flying with BA and their partners.
