Situated on the idyllic shores of the Vistula River, Krakow, once Poland's capital, is its second largest city and the most historical. The city dates as far back as the 7th Century and has since played center stage to royalty, scholars and artists. The ancient Old Town was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1978 for its compelling history and architecture. The John Paul II International Airport of Kraków-Balice is the second largest in Poland after Warsaw. It is conveniently located in Balice just 9 miles west of the city centre and is host to both an International and Domestic Terminal. When arriving in Krakow a first must see is the Main Market Square in the Old Town. This urban space located in the city center dates back to the 13th Century and is Europe's largest medieval town square. Be sure also to sit like royalty and over look the Vistual River from the Royal Castel on Wavel, climb the grand Gothic towers of St. Mary's Basilica, walk the historical trade pavilions of Cloth Hall and take a breath of historical past at the former separate Jewish city of Kazimierz.
