The small city of Lihue sits at the gateway to the highly admired Hawaiian island, Kauai. Once a minor village in ancient times, now a major hub of the island, the name Lihue means ﾑcold chillﾒ and refers to the cool breezes that blow across the area. The ancient name of the area surrounding Lihue was Ka-la-i-a-mea, meaning calm reddish brown place.
