Midwest Airlines was an American airline based in Milwaukee offering regular flights all across the country. With around 20 destinations, Midwest counted as a mid sized domestic air carrier. Midwest was founded in 1948 when consumer products giant Kimberly-Clark started providing transport between their headquarters and various outlying mills which executives needed to visit. Early destinations included Chicago, Memphis and Fulton County in Atlanta. In 1969, K-C Aviation was formed before the company adopted the Midwest name in 2002 after having been known as Midwest Express for several years. Beginning in 2007, the company had a codeshare agreement with Northwest Airlines, adding around 250 extra routes and hundreds of destinations to the flight network. Republic Airways Holdings bought the airline for around $31m in 2009. The frequent flyer program Midwest Miles is no longer active as a result of the 2010 announcement that Midwest Airlines and Frontier would merge into one brand. At the time of the merger, the Midwest fleet consisted of around 30 aircraft.
