Olympic Air serves more destinations than any other Greek airline. From the base in Athens, the airline connects Greece to the world and supports national tourism. Following the collapse of the previous national airline Olympic Airlines, the government planned a major restructuring and privatization which resulted in the creation of the new Olympic Air in 2009. While maintaining the Olympic brand, the airline is run by a completely new company with new assets. Upon formation, the new airline was around 35% smaller than the preceding incarnation. In early 2010, a merger with the other major Greek airline Aegean Air was announced, which was planned to see the new merged airline join the Star Alliance. The airline serves a wide range of around 45 destinations in Europe and North Africa and has a codeshare agreement with Delta, expanding the flight network to include North American service. Olympic Air has indicated proposals to launch their own long haul flights when the brand has become established and profitable. Travelair Club is the Olympic Air frequent flyer program, offering regular customers the chance to earn points and benefit from various discounts and bonuses on both Delta Air Lines and Olympic Air flights.
