Galeão - Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport (GIG) is based on Governador Island in Brazil. Annually, it deals with nearly 12 million passengers and not only serves the region of Rio de Janeiro but is the major international airport in the whole of the country. The main airlines to utilize GIG are Gol Airlines and TAM Airlines, both of which originate from Brazil. The airport, consisting of two terminals and two runways, is Brazil’s biggest airport site. In terms of the name, Galeão is the beach opposite the original terminal and Antônio Carlos Jobim was added in 1999 in honour of a musician from Brazil.

• Eating & Drinking: Food outlets can be found in each terminal but mainly in the central commercial area of Terminal 2. There is a range of cafes, juice bars, fast food joints and restaurants serving Western as well as Brazilian style dishes.
• ATM: ATMs are located in both terminals at Galeão - Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport. Bureau de Change can be found located in Terminal 1 on the second floor.
• WiFi: Wireless Internet is available throughout Galeão - Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport. It is provided by two companies, Boingo and iPass, at a charge. Free WiFi is accessible in the lounges.
• Shopping: Shops can be found in both terminals but mainly in Terminal 2. There is a small selection of venues selling travel essentials, souvenirs, gifts and pharmaceuticals. Both provide Duty Free before check-in.

• Airport Hotels: There are two hotels available on site, both in Terminal 1. The Hotel Pousada (021-3398-3852) is a three-star hotel on level 1 and the Luxor Hotel (021-2468-8998) is four-star accommodation on the third floor. To make hotel reservations there is a desk located on the third level of Terminal 1. Other hotels in the vicinity include Iberostar Copacabana (021-2235-6698), Porto Bay Rio Internacional Hotel (021-2546-8000) and Windsor Excelsior Copacabana Hotel (021-257-1950).
• Disabled Travelers: Elevators and adapted toilets are available throughout the airport. Other facilities include TDD telephones, automatic doors and parking spaces.
• Lounges: The Diner’s Club VIP Lounge is located on the second floor. The lounge is open from 6am to 11pm daily to Diner Club Cardholders only. The American Airlines Admirals Club and Air France Lounge are also on the second floor after security.
• Parking: There is a multi-story lot available close to Galeão - Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport. It offers both covered and uncovered options for short-term and long-term parking.
• Directions & Transportation: If driving, Galeão - Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport can be reached via Linha Vermelha or Avenida Brasil. There are a number of bus services which provide transportation to the airport. For example, the Empresa Bus service leaves from the city center and takes approximately 45 minutes. A shuttle bus leaves hourly to local beaches and to main hotels in the area. For taxis pre-paid vouchers can be purchased from the Rio de Janeiro State Tourism Authority desk. However, if not, passengers are advised to check the meter is cleared before leaving.
