San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is the largest airport in the Bay Area, and ranks second in California in terms of passenger traffic. Many US and international airlines connect San Francisco International Airport to destinations worldwide. In 2009, over 37 million passengers passed through San Francisco International Airport, which serves as a major hub for United Airlines, a focus city for Alaska Airlines, and the principal base of operations for Virgin America. San Francisco International Airport consists of four Terminals: Terminals 1 and 3 handle domestic flights (including some to Canada), while the International Terminal also handles some domestic flights. Terminal 2 is currently closed, and expected to reopen, after renovation work, in 2011. Attractions at the airport include the Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum.

• Eating & Drinking: A wide range of restaurants, bars and cafés can be found before and after security in all terminals, from international chains to local specialties.
• ATM: A full-service Bank of America can be found in the Terminal 3 mezzanine, near boarding area F, but no bureau de change facilities are offered. Travelex operates several foreign exchange offices in the International Terminal. ATMs can be found throughout the airport, provided by Bank of America, Union Bank and Wells Fargo.
• WiFi: Currently, WiFi service is provided, for a fee, by T-Mobile throughout the terminals. A switch to free service is planned.
• Shopping: A Duty Free shop is located in the International Terminal. All terminals feature a range of shops selling essentials, accessories, clothing, bags and gifts.
• Luggage: SmarteCarte offers carts for rental in the garages and terminals (landside only). Free baggage carts are available to travelers in the international arrivals area. • Airport Hotels: While there are no hotels directly on-site, a large number can be found in the close vicinity, a short drive away. They include: Marriott San Francisco Airport‎ (650-692-3500), Holiday Inn Express San Francisco Airport‎ (650-589-0600), Four Points by Sheraton SFO Airport‎ (650-624-3700), Best Western Grosvenor Airport Hotel San Francisco‎ (650-873-3200).
• Disabled Travelers: All areas of San Francisco International Airport are accessible to disabled travelers by elevators and ramps, and restrooms are located on all levels. Travelers with special needs are advised to contact their airline to ensure easy boarding.
• Lounges: Airline lounges at San Francisco International Airport include: United Airlines Red Carpet Club (Terminal 3 and International), Air France L'Espace Lounge (International), American Airlines Admirals Club (Terminal 3), British Airways Terraces Lounge (International), Continental Airlines Presidents Club (Terminal 1), Delta Air Lines Crown Room (Terminal 1), Singapore Airlines Silver Kris Lounge (International) and Virgin Club House Lounge (International, pre-security). • Parking: The domestic and international parking garages are located adjacent to the appropriate terminals. In the domestic garage, parking areas are color-coded by airlines. Rates in both garages start at $2 per 20 minutes, rising to $20 (international) and $33 (domestic) per day. A long-term garage is connected to both terminals by a 24-hour shuttle service. The maximum rate for 24 hours is $14.
• Directions & Transportation: Those traveling by car note that San Francisco International Airport is linked to downtown San Francisco by US Highway 101, which is connected to I-80 and I-280. The Air Train is a free transportation system linking the terminals to each other and to the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station, from which rail service to San Francisco operates. Trains leave every 15-20 minute, the journey time is approximately half an hour, and the one-way fare is $8.10. The less frequent Caltrain service charges $4.25, with a transfer at Milbrae station to BART. Bus: KX Express buses provide transportation to the airport from downtown San Francisco for a $5 single fare. Taxi stands are located outside the arrivals area at each terminal. The journey to downtown San Francisco taxes approximately 30 minutes, fares average $40.
