Transaero Airlines was founded in 1991 in Moscow as the first private Russian airline. Since 2006 it has been based in Saint Petersburg but the hub is still Moscow Domodedovo airport. The maiden flight was conducted with a borrowed machine from Moscow to Tel Aviv. In 1992 the airline started expanding it's own fleet. Since 1993, the fleet has consisted almost exclusively of Boeing airplanes. Transaero Airlines is focused on domestic flights within the Russian Federation but also services destinations in Europe, Asia, Canada, Cuba and the Caribbean. 2010 signalled the first intercontinental flights, including service to destinations such as Miami, New York City, Toronto and Cancun. Up to 70 medium and long-haul flights are offered, including charter flights. Unlike other Russian air carriers, Transaero Airlines started making efforts early to develop a full board service. The company was also the first to own a business lounge. Furthermore it was the first Russian airline to introduce a frequent flyer program with the launch of the Transaero Privilege Program.
